The Outsiders Arts Club is a quarterly event in London for people who want to know more about art and who would like to buy some great, affordable pieces from emerging artists.
Our first night will take place on November 18 from 6pm until 8.30pm, at the Handbag Factory between Vauxhall and Oval.
The tickets cost £22 and there will be free wine (and other beverages), a 10-minute talk from acclaimed curator and author Gemma Rolls-Bentley on what it is that curators actually do, and a Q&A where you will be able to ask her questions.
On the walls will be over 50 paintings and drawings from around 20 excellent up-and-coming artists, and they will all cost between £200 and £450. You will be able to buy them on the night. In fact, we hope that we will end the evening with bare walls.
Why?
We decided to launch the OAC because we wanted to bring a slice of the art world to people who would like to have more of an interest in it but aren’t sure where to start. We think art is great and should be for everyone, but recognise that the industry, as it is, can often be quite unwelcoming.
We wanted to create a fun, relaxed space where people can have a drink, listen to a short, interesting talk from an expert, ask them some questions, and hopefully start their own collection. We also know that artists who don’t have formal gallery representation can struggle to get their work in front of people, and we want to help them with that.
Who?
The OAC is the brainchild of Marie Le Conte, a journalist, writer, and occasional events organiser. Her background is in politics and current affairs but, in her spare time, she can usually be found moseying around London's galleries.
She has been working on this project with Michael Martins and Anastasia Mina, who run Piece, an art company.
You absolutely can. We’ve included a handful of pieces below, but do follow us on Instagram, where we’ll be posting more of the artworks on the run-up to the night. You can also keep in touch with us by subscribing to our newsletter.
